  Apple has scaled back its production plans for the device due to design challenges, especially with the micro-OLED displays. It is preparing to make fewer than 400,000 units in 2024, which is below its earlier internal sales target of 1 million units. Apple Vision Pro may be lacking some features at launch, such as the ability to show multiple Mac desktop screens or to run iOS apps natively. These features may be added later through software updates.  Apple Vision Pro is the result of decades of research and development by Apple, which has filed many patents related to spatial computing, smart rings, and projection systems. Some of these patents may hint at the future capabilities of the device. Apple Vision Pro is expected to face competition from other VR and AR headsets in the market, such as Microsoft HoloLens 2, Magic Leap 2, Meta Quest Pro, VIVE XR Elite, Meta Quest 3, Valve Index, and Sony PlayStation VR 2.
